This May come celebrate
the Fourth Annual Sparta Mountain Day. Residents
and visitors can enjoy hikes and demonstrations on the
3,000 acres of preserved woodlands, while taking up a
fight against cancer.
The day's events will
start with a "LiveStrong" 5K run to raise
funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a nonprofit
group created by the seven-time Tour de France winner
and cancer survivor.
The run will start at
Heaters Pond in Ogdensburg and end at Edison Park in
Sparta.
Other activities later in
the day will include traditional Sparta Mountain Day
events, such as hikes around Sparta Mountain and Ryker's
Lake, a raptor presentation and mining walks.
New for this year will be
presentations by local and state experts about weather
and bears.
The events will be held
on May 18, rain or shine, according to Morrison.
Participants should come prepared with water, proper
footwear and a cellular phone. Children must be
accompanied by an adult.
All events, with the
exception of the run, are free but advance registration
is requested.
The first 300 people who
register for the run will receive a Sparta Mountain Day
T-shirt. |
